DRESSING MIXES

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a dressing mix?

The use of a dressing mix offers a lower cost point over bottled dressings. Your dressing may be easily customized to create a signature dressing.  Our mixes are preservative-free yielding made-in-house results. Start with a good dry mix product, the variations are limitless.

Can I save money by making salad dressing from a mix?

Yes, making dressings from a dry mix offers a substantial savings over the use of bottled dressings.

What is the shelf life of a dressing mix?

Because a dressing mix is packed in a dry form we claim that storage of up to and beyond twelve months is realistic; always store in a cool location.

May I modify the mixing ingredients/directions?

Yes, for example, some prefer the flavor of more or less vinegar. Altering the amount of water or vinegar is common place. Vinegar choice: choosing from the many types of vinegar you may easily create a unique flavor profile.

Can I customize my dressing mix?

Yes, you can easily add different and more ingredients as you like…anchovy, cheese, pepper, garlic, sugar, buttermilk, mayonnaise, milk and so forth.

How long will a prepared dressing last?

Under refrigeration, your dressing life will be equal to that of the mixing ingredients expiration dates. For example, milk, mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk will last many days under refrigeration. Dressings prepared with water, vinegar, and oil will last many weeks when maintained at proper temperatures.

Will my finished dressing separate?

Our emulsifying dressings, those requiring the addition of water, vinegar, and oil contain natural vegetable gums. These gums assure that your finished dressing will not separate. Always follow mixing directions found on product label.

What type of mixer do I need?

For emulsifying dressings such as Caesar, Italian, or French we recommend the use of a table top bowl-type mixer with a wire whip. For non-emulsifying dressings like ranch, creamy garlic, or bleu cheese these may be prepared by hand in a large stainless steel bowl and a wire whip. However, the use of a bowl-type mixer saves plenty of time and effort.
